Suspect in Custody Following Double Carjacking and Kidnapping in Danville Area

DANVILLE – Police arrested a suspect for two carjacking and kidnapping incidents following a theft at a local hardware store.

At around noon Wednesday afternoon, Danville Police were dispatched to a report of a shoplift involving multiple suspects at Ace Hardware in the Tassajara Crossings Shopping Center. The caller stated the suspects had stolen tools.

Officers arrived and located several witnesses who provided a description of suspects and getaway vehicle. One witness was “cut” by a suspect’s knife as they tackled the suspect. Two suspects ultimately fled on Camino Tassajara toward I-680 while the tackled suspect continued fleeing on foot.

A short time later, officers received a report from a victim stating they were carjacked at knifepoint by a suspect who demanded to be driven to Antioch. The victim drove the suspect to San Ramon, where an SRPD detective observed the suspect carjack a second vehicle in the Crow Commons Shopping Center.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on the second vehicle and rescued the two occupants, who stated they did not know who the suspect was. The suspect was placed in custody after several witnesses positively identified him as the suspect.

The suspect was later identified as 30-year-old Philander Johnson. They were booked into jail for conspiracy, kidnapping, false imprisonment, carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon and second degree robbery. They are still in custody as of 11/28/21.

The other two suspects wanted for the Ace Hardware thefts are still outstanding.

So why won’t they release a description of the suspects? Can I get a pic of the person caught? Or is that racist?
