Home Depot shoplifting call results in chase, collision and search in Alamo

ALAMO – Three shoplifting suspects are in custody after they fled from a vehicle collision on Stone Valley Road in Alamo.

At around 6:10 am Monday morning, San Ramon Police received a report of a shoplifting in progress at the Home Depot on Crow Canyon Road.

Before officers arrived, the caller stated the suspects were fleeing in a vehicle. An officer in an unmarked vehicle quickly located the fleeing vehicle as it got onto northbound I-680.

When a marked police car attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, it yielded and exited to Sycamore Valley Road in Danville, but quickly re-entered the freeway and police initiated a pursuit.

The chase reached 100 mph before the suspect vehicle exited onto eastbound Stone Valley Road and collided with a utility box. Another officer in an unmarked vehicle observed three suspects flee the vehicle while removing their clothes.

Deputies with the Contra Costa Sheriff’s office responded and quickly located two of the suspects. Deputies were assisted by a Orinda Police drone and San Ramon Police canine during the search.

After more than an hour of searching for the third suspect, the California Highway Patrol received reports of a subject running across lanes of traffic on Danville Blvd. Deputies concentrated their search to the area of South Jackson Way near the creek.

With the help of alert neighbors, a Danville police officer located the suspect and took him into custody adjacent to a southbound I-680 sound wall.

The suspects allegedly stole power tools from the Home Depot. At least one of the suspects had a warrant for his arrest.
