FBI investigating online threat toward California High School in San Ramon

SAN RAMON – Police and FBI officials are investigating an online posting that contained threats directed at California High School, a school district official said Wednesday.

According to a San Ramon Valley Unified School District official, police and FBI received a report on Wednesday about an anonymous message posted online threatening the California High School campus. The post referred to Thursday, September 6th, 2018 and contained a “threat of violence.”

The official said the post was anonymous, but the FBI was able to trace the IP address to Europe.

Police will be on the campus Thursday, “out of an abundance caution,” the official said. The school district also praised the individual who “came forward and was brave enough to report the online post to law enforcement.”

In April, the FBI also investigated online threats toward campuses in the SRVUSD but quickly determined it was a part of a larger international hoax.
