Deputies nab Rossmoor burglary suspect with help of Alamo ALPR cameras

ALAMO – Deputies arrested a burglary suspect after a pursuit that began with an activation from Alamo’s new license plate recognition cameras last weekend.

In the morning hours of Saturday March 3rd, deputies were notified of the presence of a stolen vehicle that was taken during a burglary in the Walnut Creek community of Rossmoor earlier that day.

During a search of the area, a Contra Costa Sheriff’s Deputy traveling on Livorna Road located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. According to Walnut Creek Police, the driver refused to stop until it struck a curb on Livorna Road, disabling the vehicle.

The suspect ran into a nearby neighborhood and attempted to steal another vehicle parked inside a resident’s garage before he was located by deputies and Walnut Creek Police.

The suspect, Michael Kemper, a 34-year-old transient, is accused of committing four residential burglaries, two vehicle thefts and being under the influence of a controlled substance. He received a minor injury to the face during the collision and was treated at the scene.

Walnut Creek Police say on two occasions, the suspect entered the Rossmoor community, stole vehicle keys, then stole the resident’s vehicle. Deputies recovered the other stolen vehicle in Rossmoor.
