Danville Prepares for Kiwanis Fourth of July Parade

DANVILLE –

The Town of Danville and the Kiwanis Club of the San Ramon Valley are getting set for the Kiwanis July 4 parade in downtown Danville. Thousands are expected to attend this wonderful annual event. The parade is set to begin at 9:00 a.m. at the north end of Hartz Avenue near San Ramon Valley High School. The parade then moves down Hartz Avenue, turns south on San Ramon Valley Boulevard and ends near Sycamore Valley Road.

An estimated 100 groups are entered to walk in the parade, which takes approximately 3 hours to wind its way through the entire route. For more information on the parade, go to www.srvkiwanis.org/parade/.

As is the custom each year, parade goers are asked to wait until 6:00 p.m. on July 3, 2018 to put chairs along the route. Additionally, chairs should not block handicap accessible ramps on the street corners or sidewalk access. Reminder: chalk and tape may NOT be used to reserve seating along the parade route.

Town of Danville Maintenance Services Director Jed Johnson said due to federal stormwater guidelines, powerwashing the chalk marks would require both the use of recycled water and specialized equipment to keep the water out of the storm drains.

“The additional staff time needed to remove the tape placed on sidewalks and asphalt, coupled with the time and effort needed to powerwash the entire parade route, under the current guidelines, would be both challenging and cost prohibitive,” said Johnson.

During the afternoon on July 3, 2018, Maintenance Services staff, with support from the Danville Police Department, will sweep the parade route and remove items set out before the 6:00 p.m. deadline. Items removed by staff will be available for pick-up at the Town Maintenance Yard, 1000 Sherburne Hills Road, on Thursday, July 5, 2018.
