CHP Investigating Freeway Shooting in Danville

DANVILLE – A victim was shot several times after a car-to-car freeway shooting Thursday night in Danville.

At approximately 10pm Thursday, a 911 caller reported seeing the front seat passenger of a dark colored hatchback shooting at moving vehicles while traveling on northbound I-680 near Crow Canyon Road.

Moments later, Danville Police officers traveling southbound I-680 near Sycamore Valley Road observed a dark colored van pulled over on the shoulder of I-680 northbound.

When officers stopped to investigate, they located a passenger of the vehicle who was suffering from several gunshot wounds. Officers administered trauma first aid until paramedics arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital.

CHP arrived at the scene approximately 15 minutes later and closed all lanes of northbound I-680 from Bollinger Canyon Road to Diablo Road. Investigators attempted to locate shell casings in lanes of traffic that were possibly fired from the suspect’s firearm.

Authorities are still looking for the suspect and the suspect vehicle. According to a witness, the shooting occurred northbound I-680 just before Sycamore Valley Road in Danville.

As of midnight, CHP and CalTrans still had all northbound lanes closed at Bollinger Canyon Road, Crow Canyon Road and Sycamore Valley Road.
