Fire Chief Locates Missing Autistic Juvenile

On September 17, 2015 at approximately 9:30 p.m., officers from the Danville Police Department were asked to assist in locating an autistic juvenile that had been missing for over an hour. The juvenile was reportedly last seen near his home on Monte Carlo Way (near Old Blackhawk Rd). The Danville Police dog (canine Rony) was called into work from off-duty and a San Ramon Police canine was asked to aid in the search. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s helicopter, along with firefighters from the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District were also asked to join in the search. As the on-duty battalion fire chief passed by the intersection of Camino Tassajara and Sycamore Valley Rd, he noticed a boy on the street corner, matching the description of the missing juvenile. A few moments later, the fire chief radioed to his dispatcher that he had found the missing juvenile, almost 4 miles away from his last known location. Officers from the Danville Police Department brought the boy’s relieved parents to the scene to be reunited with their son, about thirty minutes after the boy was initially reported missing.
