Fire Department Extinguishes Garbage Fire in Danville

In the morning of Tuesday, November 24th, San Ramon Valley firefighters were dispatched to a possible garbage fire in the middle of Highbridge Lane. Arriving firefighters discovered a Republic Waste Services driver had dumped the load stored inside the garbage collection truck after he witnessed smoke coming from the storage compartment. Through opening the rear hatch of the truck, the driver was able to expel the trash into the road and call the fire department. Firefighters were able to douse the garbage, and though no flames were seen, the smoldering trash threatened to ignite. After firefighters ensured the scene was safe, a Republic Waste Services cleanup crew began re-loading the garbage into the truck using heavy equipment. The cause of the smoke inside the storage compartment is still unknown.
